![]() Hilary Swank is best known for her Academy Award®-winning performances, and she’s now adding pet adoption advocate to her impressive resume. This year Swank has partnered with Iams Home 4 the Holidays to help save the lives of millions of homeless pets around the world.Hilary has rescued many animals throughout her life including cats, dogs and birds. She lives in Los Angeles with her two rescued dogs Karoo and Rumi. Five years ago, while filming Red Dust in the South African countryside of Karoo, Hilary befriended a starving, tick-infested stray dog she found on the side of a road. And as fate would have it, she began to consider expanding her family. When she met the Jack Russell/Corgi mix, it was kismet. A few years later, Hilary’s first dog Lucky passed away. She already knew she wanted to adopt again, so last October she took a trip to the East Valley Humane Society (Van Nuys, Calif.) to find a new family member. She found a strong connection with a Golden Retriever mix, who she named Rumi after the famous Persian poet, known for writing poems that bring people to love. Rumi has since lived up to his name bringing much love into Hilary’s life. Hilary spends a lot of time with Karoo and Rumi. Whether they travel with her to a movie location or go hiking together, they are very much a family. Hilary is reminded every day of the unconditional love they give to her, “Every day when I look at Karoo and Rumi, I know they’re thankful I’ve adopted them into my family, and I’m just as thankful they’ve adopted me.” Please join Hilary as she works side-by-side with Iams Home 4 the Holidays to help find homes for 1.5 million pets Oct. 1 through Jan. 5, 2010. |
